I’m sure everyone has received a terrible handshake before: perhaps the limp fish (too soft), or the bonecrusher (too hard), or perhaps one where your hands didn’t really touch the way they should. No need to worry, here are a few tips to make sure you’re doing it right (and if ever you feel the handshake you gave wasn’t “right”, it’s fine to say…”Let’s try that again, I know I can give a better handshake.”
- First, extend your right hand out with your thumb pointed to the sky.
- Next, make sure your web is touching their web. (The web is the little bit of skin between your thumb and your pointy finger!)
- Give a firm shake and a couple pumps (not more than three) while looking the person in the eye, smiling and saying some sort of nice greeting (nice to see you again, nice to meet you, you look fantastic, happy holidays, etc.)
It’s as simple as that.
And always remember to look the person in the eye (really give them a nice smile too!) It only takes a few seconds and makes a big difference.
